FS: Red '80S (SF Bay Area - not mine)

This is the car I mentioned last week where the woman was threatening to donate it. She's lowered her price to $1000 because she's decided that it needs a a good home, but needs to move it fast...I have seen pix (though poor quality, but car looks good).

Hi, Jeff.  Unfortunately, I do not have the capacity to do e-mail photos, but the car is presently parked on the Panhandle side of Oak Street, right before Central (between Central and Masonic), if it's convenient for you to look at it.  

The color is "mars rot," which is a slightly orangy red; it is the original color.  There is striping in a silvery white.  I have kept the striping, which could easily be removed, to retain the original look; I have replaced some of it, but the striping on the hood and along one side needs replacing now, should the new owner decide to retain it.  If I were to keep it, I would re-do the striping that needs it, repair the more noticeable dent on the panel behind the passenger door and repair the spoiler.

The car does have A/C, but I've rarely used it, so it would need servicing to become operable, I would think.  No sunroof -- did they  make them back then?  Ditto power steering, power breaks, electric windows and cupholders -- it has none of those.  It has Recaro seats, which are great.  I've replaced the upholstery on the front seats, but not the rear ones, which are beginning to fray along the top.  Operable radio and cassette deck, not original.  Good sport tires in good condition.  I've always done regular preventative maintenance, and did quite a bit of work on the breaks, engine, clutch (as I said) and other major service work a little over a year ago, along with more recent minor services.  The car passed its last smog check with flying colors.  As I think I mentioned in the ad, it idles high when it is cold, 10-15 minutes depending on how cold it is; my mechanic has not been able to resolve that issue, but it's been doing that for a year and seems not to pose any operational problems.  As I think I also mentioned, it experienced weird electrical problems over a year ago (no radio and dash lights); I spent some $$ trying to track that down, but my mechanic was unable to figure out the problem.  However, it has not recurred in the last year.  Also, the rear window wiper is not working right now, and I haven't bothered to have that fixed.

I think that's full disclosure -- don't want to waste either your or my time.  I do have my file of repair orders from over the years.

I hate letting go of it, as I've had it since 1984 after I purchased it from the original owner with very low mileage and have always enjoyed it.  But we bought a new VW this weekend so we could delegate our SUV for camping etc. only; we just can't justify keeping 3 cars for 2 people, one of whom (me) rarely drives, nor do we want to deal with street parking for the third car.  

I like the idea of it having another life with another owner, but I am also tempted to turn it over to the California Air Resources Board -- the environmentally good thing to do.  However, if I go that route, I have to do it within 60 days of its next registration, which is mid-May, so I have a little time pressure.

Let me know if you'd like more information.  I suppose I could photograph it, scan the photos and e-mail them, but I won't see the car again in daylight till Friday and I wouldn't be back in my office to do the scanning etc. till next Monday.  Ideally, you can just visit the car and check it out in person.
