The SVO guys don't care. They set themselves up with a reliable source
of used vegetable oil from a local restaurant, screen out the big bits,
filter out the little bits, and use that. At about 70C the viscosity of
vegetable oil is such that it can be burned in place of diesel fuel.
The "kits" that Greasecar et al generally consist of a storage tank and
plumbing for the vegetable oil, and a heater, either electrically
operated or a coolant->oil heat exchanger to get the oil warm enough.
The fuel system has to be plumbed in such a way that the engine can be
started (and shut down) on straight diesel, and any time after the oil
is warm enough it can be switched over (usually via electrically
operated fuel valves such as you might find in any twin-tank pickup
truck.)
