stinky rocco(little long)

well i have an 82 scirocco that i swapped a jh into. i ran the distro, and 
the original cis accept i swapped in the injectors from the 1.7. well since 
i did the swap the car absolutely stinks it runs really rich. i adjusted the 
mixture with the scanner at work. it still stinks just to a lesser degree 
but now i have a popping noise on decel and sometime between shifts. i have 
2 ideas and im thinking the advance mechanism inside the distro is shot or 
something fuel related. any input would be greatly appreciated as this car 
gets terrible gas mileage(i think) for a four cylinder. it gets like 380 
kmto 40 litres of fuel.
