 Because I have seen bluing as a heat treatment on several other cranks, 
mostly Japanese, although I believe both Scat and Gene Berg blue theirs...

  I think you have hit on it, though.  Is it uniform, on the mains, on the 
rods, or all of the above?  If it is not uniform, then perhaps it IS from a 
bearing problem...

  As for the revving at 6K, quit grandstanding, and stick to the facts...  
Perhaps I did overstate things a wee bit, but as far as I can see there is no 
reason to be prickly about it...
