first: welcome to the list, you will have much fun here.
second: jettas will just go forever. mine (selling on saturday) almost hit
300k.
third: the jetta probably had a wider ratio tranny, which will give you
better mileage. it is also possible (and easy) to only change out 5th gear
on teh tranny, giving it the same peppyness with the better mileage.
