Q for you experienced body work listers

What would you recommend for a type of pneumatic sander for auto body work?
I know there are jitterbugs, orbitals and random orbitals, but not sure if 
there are
some other types and which would be the best for sanding down a car to primer
or bare metal.  This is for a Scirocco if it makes a difference.  Air 
supply is not an
issue either.
While I am at it here's another question- What guage of sheet metal are the 
panels
on are Sciroccos?  In particular the MkI.
