I shouldn't admit this but last fall I added a quart of oil
to the 172 and promptly got distracted.  Shortly thereafter
I took off and went over to a grass strip about 10 miles
south of here...

When I got out, there was more oil than usual on the
airplane.  (It used to leak a lot to begin with)  Sure
enough, I'd left the oil filler cap off.

The kicker though was the fact that the cap was still
sitting on top of the battery box where I'd left it before
taking off.  Talk about lucky....
