[audio] dumb ohm-age question (or square peg & round hole)

Take an ohm meter and place it across the coil (pos and neg terminals)...
Also if you have a 4ohm amp and you run two speakers you either need a
crossover (which was most likely in the Porche) or you will just be over
running the amp. When you half the ohms to the amp you double the output
power. Example if you have a 100 watt amp at 4 ohm and you connect two 4 ohm
speakers up to it in series you have 200 watts ( on a good amp anyways)
going to your speakers. SOOO if you have a 4 ohm amp and do not crank it way
up you most likely will be fine. Allot of newer amps are 2 ohm stable
anyways.....

Look up a Precision Power amp or Macintosh amp to see what I mean about
bridging amps down to two ohms.

Subject: [audio] dumb ohm-age question (or square peg & round hole)

okay, so now i've two sets of bose speakers laying around for a
custom built box. i've also a 250w, 4-ohm amp waiting for a home. i have
been, thus far, unable to determine the ohms of the speakers, though i
have had one place said that most likely are 2-ohm, but might be 4-ohm
(lotta help, that one). they are out of a porsche (no bose amp present
for those) and an audi (which the bose amp was there, but no markings on
it). anyone know what ohms these are or any way that i can find out?
also, and here's the dumb question, is there any way to make 2-ohm
speakers work with a 4-ohm amp? i'd assume it'd just blow the speakers
or there'd be one universal amp. and help would be appreciated. thanx.
