brake bleeding help

You're gonna have a bit of a mess on your hands, yes, but its nothing you
can't handle with a little preparation. The fluid drips out pretty slowly
because in order for it to drip out, air has to get in. If you leave the
cap on the brake fluid reservoir it will indeed drip out very slow.. but
might be slightly more prone to forming hard-to-purge bubbles instead of
just lowering the level in the reservoir.

When I did brake work w/o draining the fluid (disconnected the lines to
the rear axle), I just used a big coffee can to catch the drips and had a
rag underneath it for the few errant ones.

The unions are o-ringed so as soon as you get the lines pressed together
they semi-seal enough that there isn't brake fluid pissing everywhere as
you might be imagining.

If you're changing a caliper or whatever just have the new part handy and
all ready to go as soon as you disconnect the line, then hook it up as
soon as possible, letting the line drip in to a bucket in the mean time.
