Thank goodness for jack stands...
The first thing I do when I get a car is toss out that p.o.s. scissors jack and toss a floor one in the trunk. They're only like $20 from Walmart's and don't take up that much extra space. I've had a car jacked up before and had the soft asphalt give way, causing the jack to twist and drop. It happened as soon as I stood up from being under the car. Standard car equipment in any car I'm in: 2 jackstands, floor jack and my $25 Walmart tool kit, so I don't have to search for the lugnut wrench.
Glad you're okay!

Ok story time.....I was being a good samaritin and helping this old guy change his tire in a gas station cause he got a flat. OK yeah he said he'd give me a 20 to do it. It was one of those huge Lexus LS and the jack was just like the one that came with our car. See where this is going, well the bone head never set the emergency brake, yeah I know I'm a bone head for not checking. As I pull off the tire I notice the car start too move slightly and i'm thinking no it can't be moving, I checked the......oh shit no I didn't....and its well on its way down onto the rotor and front bumper. I was able to get tiny jack back under there now with the brake on, I put the spare on got my twenty, and jetted my ass outa there fast before he could get in the car and drive. Well anyway, after I saw how fast a car will fall I won't get under a car unless its got a jack and jackstands and the wheels are chaucked.
