1975 factory Auto ??

Yeah I would not get an auto from our scirocco years...so rare that they
are many dollars to fix and really is not worth it....IMHO

VW/Audi trannies have had this trouble for years, very familiar with the
Audi
5K and this trouble, and that was from cars in the early to late 80s...
