Always hate to hear when someone's ride gets stolen. Even with the best alarms and starter kill, fuel kill, lack of door handles(!), no car that is wanted badly enough is safe. Although I don't have near as much money into my rocco(s) as others, I do have quite a bit of time and sentiment invested, plus some rare O.G. parts that would be hard to replace.
I've been researching various GPS tracking units and have found a solution that meets the following criteria:
1)Real time tracking (vs data logging...if my car gets stolen, I'm showing up with the police at homeboy's front door)
2)Tracking via web brower (vs custom s/w, so if the police dispatchers have web access, they can follow aforementioned homeboy)
3)Low subscription cost. Because I can't really afford another $40/month cellular contract.
4)Integrates with existing alarms systems. So you can kill the ignition, activate siren or set off the blasting cap underneath the driver's seat. <-I hope Carnivore doesn't catch that one.
The one I've chosen is called StreetTrak. Does all the above for $70/year (and you can upgrade service if desired). They have given me price break quantities. Regular cost is $449, 5 units at $399, 10 at $375, 20 at $350 (plus shipping). Even if no one goes in, I'll still buy one for myself at $449, it's well worth the peace of mind.
Check it out at http://www.streettrak.com and NO I am not affiliated with anyone there or have any personal interest in the company. Check the coverage map to make sure you're in there.
