Big, big jump from 1.13 4th in the 2H or 2Y to the .71 5th. If you were cruising in 5th at 3000 and
downshifted to 4th you'd be at 4800 RPM. Maybe you wouldn't mind, but that would irritate the hell
out of me. I'd try a .8 5th (have to buy it new) or at least a .75.

My 2.0 8V ABA can spin the tires in first without provocation in my MK II with A/C and PS and 3.94
FD. i.e my car's heavier than yours and has a small traction issue. I think the 4.25 will just make
1st a waste of time unless you enjoy fighting for traction.

I think your numbers are possible. I don't think you can do it with a stock head, which is why I
think Patrick's numbers were kinda low for a 2.0. Ported head and 272 cam with decent exhaust (2.0
may be a little bit of a cork) should do it. The extra displacement won't get you much more HP
cause, in my opinion, the head is flow limited. It'll supply plenty of torque though, which is
another reason to blow off the 4.25 FD.

Hmmm.....better start a spreadsheet for all the items you want to buy, then add at least 10% for all
the little stuff you can't think of now.

Maybe if you can stand the big jump to 5th.
You know you're going to have a pile of torque with that engine and a really wide torque band. I'd
round up an ACN. It has a .75 5th with mid spaced (i.e.not close and not wide) 3rd and 4th ratios.
Maybe put a 3.94 FD in it. Decent cruising RPM and you'll never be off the power curve with the
engine you intend to build.
my .02
