MkI brake light switch - FYI
Just want to add, re: Mk1 brake light switches-
- They are a pair and when one goes out the other seems to follow soon
after. I believe this is because the remaining one has to now carry
the whole electrical load through it (another reason to relay stuff in
the car.) When buying a spare, buy a pair.
- They are pressure actuated on the early cars by having the switches
screw into the M/C, later models use a regular mechanical switch
actuated by the brake pedal lever.
- Almost an afterthought but those with cruise control will find a
brake switch installed to deactivate said system. (My 81 has such a
setup as it had an after market system installed at some time.)
From my reading of VW related info over the years the Audi retrofit
with larger drilled hole is the way to go. (Of course it's not the
only way.)
