Legal options on gas tank recall

Legally speaking,  I believe a car manufacturer is required to maintain parts 
and support for the car 10 years after the last car of that model has been 
produced.  The last Scirocco to come off the line was in 1992 I think.  So after 
2002 the don't have to do anything for you, even if your car was part of the 
original recall.
