1979 scirocco "S"?

Actually, the "S" wasn't offered in '79 - though there was a special edition in 79 that came with the "S" look.  I'm still trying to find what the name for that package was...

I just bought my second scirocco.I used to have an 80 while in Germany. The one I just purchased is an "S" What does this mean? Any help or links would be great.
