OT:huge sudden vibration(broken motor mount?)
umm... i wouldnt drive that car much more until you change the mounts. heres
why:
with good side mounts, the rear mount can be removed with no jacking. if the
engine sits SO LOW that you have to jack it up 'inches' just to get it lined
back up, your side mounts are toast. this will cause the front+rear mounts
to support the engines weight. the rear mount isnt too bad, since it bolts
directly to the central frame of the car, but the front mount bolts to the
weakest part of an a1 (front cross member, under radiator). driving at all
risks splitting that cross member into several pieces, especially now that
the rear mount is fixed, even more stresses will be on the front mount.
side note: even all rubber missing from the side mounts shouldnt let the
engine go THAT low. i would look for missing bolts from the tranny bracket.
hth,
Al
