Ball joint bolt kit
Dan,
You are right about having to buy 100 of any fastener from McM-C. I look at that as being a plus...I then have a lifetime supply of that item and will never have to worry about buying that particular fastener again!
Second-guessing the engineers?
Well, when you get right down to it, any "mod" you do to your Scirocco is second-guessing the designer, right?
That makes ALL of us guilty as charged, even those of us who ARE engineers.

Only one problem with this suggestion.
McMaster-Carr almost always sells you more than you want unless it's a
pretty expensive item to start with and then there's always shipping. So, it
could be cheaper to go to the stealership. But worth checking out anyway.
Now, what's this crap about second-guessing the engineers??
Knee jerk techie response to engineers?
Dan
BSME and somehow, somehow, I manage to fabricate and assemble my own stuff!

If I were set on taking the "chipazz" route, I'd at least go to
McMaster-Carr, buy the Class 12.9 Metric Socket-head Cap Screws in 8mm,
drill out the holes to accept the 8mm items (AS REQUIRED), then drive down
the road with satisfaction/peace of mind....knowing that you have
second-guessed the engineers (which some of us are compelled to do), saved
money (not really, but....), and DONE IT YOURSELF.
If McMaster-Carr doesn't appeal to you, go along with Dan and Ron.

Yeah, nothing worse than a front wheel flopping around...get the dealer
stuff.
