Odd cooling problem
Once the engine is off, the source of heat is gone and temperatures start to drop, not rise.
Think about it.

When the car is running, the system is presurized and is also moving and
being cooled, so it behaves. Once the car is off, the coolent isn't
flowing anymore so it isn't being cooled. This causes a rise in
temerpature of the coolent and a rise in pressure since as things heat
up, they tend to expand. Since the cap appears to be faulty with higher
pressures, it's allowing the system to puke at higher pressure levels.
How's that for ya, a bit technical, but without all the big words that
make me sound like I know what I'm talking about? Hope that helps.
