Quadruple check cam timing. Be sure you have the right mark, there's often one on each side of
the timing gear. Make sure it aligns to the correct surface (head surface, not VC surface,
right?). Check that the flywheel TDC mark corresponds to actual TDC using the
coat-hanger-in-the-sparkplug-hole method. Reconnect any vacuum lines that have anything to do
with vacuum advance (and just for the hell of it, remove and plug the vac line to the vac advance
canister, and see how it runs then, using straight mechanical advance).
