Ignition timing BS, was Re: gah,so many questions! adj. cam gear this time

So I just would advance the valve timing to put the power lower? Is it as easy as adjusting regular timing or is there more involved? What's the point of an adjustable cam gear then?

I'll go with the valve timing statement. Retard for top end.......

Dan-
Ignition timing: retard for low end, advance for top end
Valve timing: retard for top end, advance for low end.

I want to get a 276 cam, however it's for a DD, so I'd like to move the
power down a bit to a more usable range. Do I need an adjustable cam gear to
do that, or is there a way to retard cam timing besides that? (It is retard
right, to get more lower end and less top end?)
