mine was a rattle, but fwiw, my '85 has a similar problem that would
*mostly* go away with the clutch engaged. the p.o. put a new clutch in
and didn't 1) torque the flywheel bolts or 2) didn't use new bolts or
locktite. only had to retap one hole on the crank, but not fun.
