how do i keep the flex pipe from tearing

torn for the 2nd time. cost me $80 the first time to
fix. so how do i keep this from happening again. its
got an aftermarket exhaust from the previous owner and
it seems as though the area around the catalytic
converter use to have a rubber grommet that held the
area up, well, no it has nothing holding that area up.
might be why its doomed to tear.
