Eric,
I have a Drake 426 cam and Drake super sport valve springs with solid
lifters. Noise is a relative thing. I've always thought my engine was noisy
and I've always thought it was due to solid lifters. I can't remember what
the stock engine/cam sounded like. I don't think the noise will go away due
to the springs/cam settling in. I do notice that valve train noise is
lessened when oil is fresh (just changed). By today's standard, any 30 year
old engine design with solid lifters is going to be noisy.

Any of you solid lifter equipped 8v guys install a wild cam with TT HD Valve
springs?
I had my mechanic do the install, as I didn't have the tools/time for the
complete job. He did the stem seals, installed the HD Springs and the cam
and adjusted the lifters to spot on (he said he triple checked the
adjustment, and I trust this mechanic, only one I let work on my cars).
However, both of us were suprised by the amount of lifter noise I have. Is
this something to be expected of a wild cam like a Kent 278 with stiff new
valve springs on a solid lifter head? Is this something that will deminish
as the springs and cam settle in?
Lastly, will anyone have the shims and tools necessary at Cincy to double
check my valve adjustment?
Thanks for the time guys, its been awhile since I've gotten to ask a
question.
