Welcome to the list Brad.
MKI's are the best of the 2 scirocco's, but thats just a biased opinion :)
There are a few places to check for rust for one thing.
Look under the car where the back axle joins the frame. Check for rust here.
Check the floor boards as well where the door meets the floor and where the
floor meets the rear wheel arches.
The proper spelling is Recaro for the seats.
The motor can be replaced or cleaned up. I drove 370,000 on my last MKI with
a rd motor. They last forever if you care for them!
$1000 isn't bad if the car is in good shape. Others will most likey chip in
with other opinions.
