Hmm not familiar with that method maybe they did that back in the 80's.  As 
far as the Bose nowadays like the one in my Jetta:).  The head unit out puts 
at a very low impendance like 1 ohm.  And all of the speakers have an amp for 
each speaker,  so if you were to change out the speakers with regular 
speakers all you will hear is a bunch of garbage.  And if you change out the 
head unit will just get a bunch of garbage for sound.  So if you don't want 
Bose the only way around it is to change both the head unit and the speakers. 
 Now if the Audi as actually as you said then you gotta put in wires too,  
Whoa, that would suck, but I don't ever remember hearing of a Bose set up the 
way you suggest.
