OT: How can I run a server on my own computer
Guys, for a quick and very neat server get e-smith:
www.e-smith.org
A monkey can set up a server with this Red Hat distribution. Quick, simple,
very secure, and can be managed from any desktop on the LAN with a web
browser. You can install plenty of goodies - MySql, php, email, apache, you
name it.
And don't waste time resizing your pictures, it is all done automatically by
this add-on:

Cheers.

Well for a server to run, it needs to be on.
And for some one from the internet to access the web sites,, yes, you need
to keep it connected. Since you have DSL thats no problem.
There are several OS's that you can run. Linux and win 2k.
I run both.
Win 2k will allow ASP to run, witch allows easy to maintain Photo galleries.
You will need to get a static IP address and not dynamic. Dynamic IPs change
on occassion and then the web server will not register on the net work.
For an example vist one of my sites that is database enabled (built from
data with in a database).

The photo gallery on there is on I wrote. Its fast and easy I am building a
automatic thumbnailer at the moment.
