I thought the show was great.. temp in low 60's, cars on grass (very
well drained, thankfully), rain stayed away, so-so 'roc turnout (11-12
cars, many local no-shows such as AHEM Mr TBerk who was allegedly gonna
make an appearance), but overall, it was a fun, well-run event.
VWVortex put up a buttload of pics, link to the article/gallery from the
front page of the site. I have about 80 pics that I need to shrink &
compress and will have up either later tonight or tomorrow.
One cool thing about the show was the way the 4 softball fields were
separated, allowed all the old skool cars to have our "own" field,
completely separated from the Playstations, outrageous amps, 20" wheels,
and other atrocities of the newer-generation crowd. Very cool.
There was one judging screwup that affected the Mk1's. Only 4 Mk1's at
the show - 3 very nice ones, and one project/beater (that the owner
deserves mad props for bringing out IMHO), 3 trophies, so it was obvious
who was going to take home hardware.. but! Somehow they put some Renner
dude's Mk2 into the Mk1 scoring and gave him 2nd place, squeezing out
Charles (red Mk1 from down here, Shawn you may know him, I think he
races?) and he was TOTALLY bummed. How the Renner dude accepted the
trophy when it was obviously a complete mistake is beyond me. The error
was pointed out soon afterwards and they promised to make it right, so
Charles should be receiving something after all.
