MessageI use a product at AutoZone 2 parts.. 1) engine degreaser , 1) engine
detailer
run engine 5 mins at idle to make warm not hot, spray on, leave on for 10
mins, wash off, repeat with engine detailer works like a charm and
everything shines.

I recently picked up some aluminum cleaner from Eastwood that claims it is
safe on paint, vinyl and rubber. Just spray it on grease free aluminum and
hose it off. No report on results yet since it just arrived.

Use caution there, 'box. Oven cleaner is very caustic and will take off
paint, corrode aluminum and ferrous alloys, etc.
Commercial engine cleaner and a parts-cleaning brush is the safest method.

Recently, as I've had my 2L 16v out for some time, I've taken a good
ribbing as to how dirty the engine was. (And, in my defense, it wasn't that
dirty, but I can also appreciate the looks of a spic&span engine bay).
Now, the re-install looms and I'm faced with this miserable task. I'm
subconsciously looking for any reason to not do it, any shortcut that'll
make it easier, when I know I really should take the belts, pulleys,
tensioner, lower timing belt cover off and dig in. But did I mention that
I'm LAZY?
