thanks william. turns out the speedos are different; the sensor looks like 
it will fit this one. i posted the pic here- 
http://www.learnlink.emory.edu/~mabatzi/head%20work/speedo.jpg . you can see 
where the sensor screws in. that cutout in the middle is mostly filled in on 
the motometer, looks like it can be cut out easily. i'll take a closer look 
later, and more pics in the tech write up to come.

btw william--i'll be around this weekend, probably doing this on saturday. 
give me a call if you still wanted to come down and work on your ride.
