.org forums instead of mailing list?

It seems that most people now just think of newsgroups as something that's
in a web browser. If you want hands on experience you can access
Microsoft's free news server. Just use Outlook Express. Go to Tools >
Accounts. Click the Add button and Select News.

Insert any name and click next
Insert anything thing for email address (I recommend not using an email
address here) and click next
Enter news.microsoft.com for the server name and click next
Click finish

You will be asked if you want to download news groups from the server you
just added, click Yes.

Subscribe to a group like Microsoft.public.windowsxp.general by double
clicking it or selecting it and clicking the subscribe button.
Click OK or close to get out of the group list browser.

On the left hand window select the news group and a list of messages will
download.

Welcome to the world of real newsgroups! Established for your viewing
pleasure since the internet was invented by al gore and only recently
bastardized by html for advertising purposes :o(

This just furthers my hatred of http based newsgroups... newsgroups should
all be nntp based... that means that you can open them in most email readers
such as outlook express and it looks like your just doing something legit.

Here's an example of what newsgroups should look like...
