Koni Shock install....one more thing...

OK, so looking @ the instructions it looks like I can shave a few mm off the
bottom of the shock by (if I'm understanding the drawing correctly) cutting
off the little extension at the bottom of the shock insert?

Also, wtf is the plastic slotted washer for?  It looks like it's supposed to
go somewhere by the locking nut thingy to hold the shock into the strut
housing.
