sunroof guides

i replaced one of the sunroof guides in my friend chris's rocco last night. 
after replacing it i had a hell of a time getting the sunroof lined up 
correctly again. it seemed every time you rolled the roof back it would go 
out of alignment. after looking at it for awhile, i noticed that his 
original guide and the replacement guide were different. same part, but they 
had worn differently, so every time you rolled the roof back the wear 
pattern caused the passenger side to drop faster then the driver's side. i 
replaced the drivers side guide with the other half of the set and it worked 
perfectly. anyone else ever notice this or have a similar problem? should 
these guides be replaced in pairs?
