Engine install - injector problem??

While prepping a used engine for install into my car, I decided to pull the 
injectors, and just use my old ones, mostly because the PO of the engine had 
chopped all the fuel lines instead of just taking the bolts off  (???)  I 
didn't have an injector puller, so my friend pulled straight out on what 
remained of the lines for each injector as I would carefully pry at the 
joint to the injector.  1st two came out with no problem, but the third and 
fourth came out without the lower seal, and what I guess is the shroud???  
some sort of cap that the first two came out with intact.

The question:  If I try to put injectors in there without the cap on, will 
they slide into the ones that remain in the head, or will they (probably) 
just push the cap into the combustion chamber?  So, should I try to extract 
these caps somehow?  I was going to try to finish this up today, because 
Melissa needs my car for Cincy, and have to finish it before I leave 
Wednesday morning.  I REALLY don't want to have to pull the head if at all 
possible.
