SOT: need advice with rubbing 16's on a cabby

These were the same rims I had on my 16v and never had any trouble with them rubbing - but that was with stock shocks and springs.

Now I've put them on the cabby and they rub like crazy - so much so I've melted and warped my front driver's fender flare! :-/

The suspension on the cabby is (what I believe are) Neuspeed springs (old style) with KYBs (which may very well be blown). The tires are 205/45/16. Just got the front end aligned and it still rubs...

I would really like to keep these wheels on the cabby if I can. I doubt 205/40's would help much. Is there much difference between a mk2 wheel weel and that of a cabby?

Do I go with SoftSports or new shocks (I'd only be able afford Boge's for this car), or both, or use my Tokico Illuminas until my next mk1 is ready for them? Do springs go bad? I also have a decent hybrid suspension on the mk1 I'm about to sell (Tokico Ill's in front, koni yellows in rear, w/ Softsports). Do I swap that stuff out and sell the mk1 with a crappier setup??

This cabby is only supposed to keep me occupied for about another year (but could be longer with a child on the way...)

I'm broke and in a quandary...any input is much appreciated!

Thanks! Jeff
