Hazard light number

Not just the Mk2 rocco.  I have seen numbers on the hazard switch in 
Beetles - first  with the pull-on switch, then in my '74 with a lighted 
rocker.  I think every damned VW I've ever owned has had numbers on the 
hazzard switch - including my A3 Jetta.

I have no idea what the hell it means though.
