tach problem

i just recently installed a set of white faced gauges in my car and now my tach is way off. when the car is at idle the tach reads dead zero rpms. and when i'm doing 80 on the freeway the tach is reading just over 3k. i figure i put the needle back on there wrong, but how do i go about resetting it now? if i take the needle back off where's the right spot to set it to for reinstallation?
