Fan still running killing battery?

My fan lately won't shut off after I shut the car off.  It only seems to do 
it if I had used the A/C and will run on high speed nearly killing the battery 
enough that I could barely start the car.  At one time it ran for 45 minutes.  
Anyone know what this can be?
