PS tie-rod replacement Q
Hmmmm, I see how the Bentley does it.
Since they show the rack held in a vise (soft-jawed) after removal, I would think you could grab the protruding end(s) of the rack with a big pair of ViseGrips/C-clamp/pipe wrench (protect the rack with aluminum or brass sheet of sufficient thickness) and hold it that way while torqueing the TRE nuts. 52 lbs/ft is a lot, but you could brace the grips/clamp/wrench against the body perhaps.
OR just bench-press that big ol' vise up under there and grab it!!!!

Subject: PS tie-rod replacement Q
So the Bentley recommends removing the rack from the car.
Tell me there's a better way. How do you secure the rack's
shaft while loosening the tie-rod?
This is on the 16v w/ power steering. Different from
manual rack cars.
