well, I haven't had a chance yet to try the relay, had yard work to do
( however, I did check my receipts and found I had them both replaced (relay
and main pump)about a year ago, (less than 1000 miles) not that I'm writing
them off, just not looking promising. I don't have any main pump noise
though.
So am I looking at a lean condition here? How about lifter springs binding?
or fuel filter too small? possibly original injectors in a GX head? Just
putting things out, other possibilities?

Is your main pump noisy? they do stuff like that... the rev limeter thingy
that is.
