A few tech questions
You probably have already heard this by now but the Y/R wire is indeed from the coolant temp sending unit. I had to crimp on a female spade connector on my 16v too when I re-installed it into the cabby. I wouldn't bother trying to replace the whole thing (it's barried in the loom to the fuse box...

This is for (you guessed it) the 16V. (aka silver headache, jealous bitch,
whatever...)
I just put in the delightful "water pipe" and it was so entertaining, I'll
post in that later.
Anyway, as a result, I have a few "issues" to resolve
1. There was a very crunchy yellow and red wire that plugs into a single male
prong on the head. It looks to be on its last legs, what does it do? (see #2)
2. My temp guage doesn't work, is this due to the wire above? If not, where
does it read from (location and wire colour would be helpful)
3. I'm an idiot (you all knew that). Since I wanted access to the area near
the "water pipe", I removed my overflow reservoir, which means the strut bar
had to go. SO I managed to strip out one of the bolts, the nut is still on it,
but it just spins. SO, how do I reattach the bearing/bar? I'll have a spring
compressor tomorrow to do strut bearings on Klaus anyway, so removal of the
bearing is an option.
4. Any tips on burping the venerable 16V block? I filled it by the upper rad
hose, but the oil temp is still rising to uncomfortable levels, I've been
heating/burping/repeat, should this eventually do it? And it says it should
take 4.7 L (or 4.8?) we spilled a fair amount of a 4L lot, and it filled the
overflow completely. Do I still have .7 L of air in there?
5. Not wanting the new baby to be left out, I measured his (lack of) weight at
the quarry today, Klaus weighs in at 850kg, I'm assuming this is normal for a
stock MkI!?! Yee hah! I'm loving that car, like driving an old comfy couch
(the seats are hurting bigtime, but so comfy, and my cassette collection is
such a blast from the past...)
6. That 16V sucks, NOT, it was SO NICE to get her back out on the road, I just
love that car. Too.
Cathy, more later...
