Well the last time I listed this my tranny was making a rubbing noise only
when I would let off of the gas in gear, so I quit driving it. I called the
old owner about it and he said that it could be the mainshaft bearring and
to change the oil then it should be fine to drive it, so I did (the old oil
was kinda a grey yellowish). SO... after about 4 days, I am driving the
beast and I hear a knocking from the tranny. When it is in neutral and
costing, no noise. Going from neutral to 2nd while costing makes the noise
again, then lightly makes it while in gear, when I let let off of the cluch
it soulds like there is a midget with a jack hammer under the hood! A buddie
and I jacked up the front and the diff seems fine, wheels turn freely with
no noise. We let down one wheel to the ground, while in neutral my buddie
would spin the wheel while I would listen. The knock noise comes from where
the clutch is every two rotations of the wheel. What could this be? Bad
cluch? Bad presure plate? Bad bearing? Bolt fell out inside case? Any ideas
would be great, because I am getting sick of driving my ford winter beater!
oh yah, it is a 87 scirocco16v 2.0
