as far as the a/c idle problem: a while back i had the classic problem where the a/c causes the car to idle at 2k when the fan is set to 4. i came to the list and removed the relay and fuse as instructed. few months later the bolts that hold the a/c compressor in had worked themselves loose and the thing was rattling around, so i removed the a/c compressor (left the alternator in the top mount, but put an 8v pulley on it and it lined up perfectly with the pulley where the compressor used to be). shortly after this i noticed that my gas mileage was not what i had grown to expect from my scirocco. it was drinking almost a quarter tank in 40 miles. so i tried to adjust the fuel mixture and idle screw on the tb. turning the screw on the tb does nothing. turning the screw on the fuelk distributor got the idle down to 11-12 hundred (still too high, but if i go lower then it dies when cold). i also have a custom intake tube on, which has been checked over and over and over for leaks and if it has one i cannot find it. so right now my car idles at 11-12 hundred and runs ok, but doesnt seem to have the power that it once did.
as for the control arms: i bought new febi control arms and ball joints, and new prothane bushings. my stock arms were pretty beat up (no major bends, just dents on the edges) and they were ugly. anyway, i started at 8pm in a friends garage putting the passenger side in. i got it all in, but the front pivot bolt hole would not line up. i could get it to line up at the front, but not at the back of the hole. i tried prying with everything i could find, but just ended up with a pile of bent screwdrivers. about 3:30 am i decided to give up. i couldn't leave the car in his garage because it was allready spoken for on the next day, so i put everything else back together and attempted to roll it out and park it on the road. i made it to the road before the arm fell back out and broke my driveaxle. i called the shop the next morning to tow it in and have them put it on. they wanted 90 per side to put them in, so i only had them do the one that was out. (i am a college student and constantly broke). then i borrowed a tow dolly from another friend and brought it home. i took the driveaxle out and got another (it was under warranty) and put it in. now i am driving with one poly bushed new arm and one stock one.
as if my day wasn't going bad enough: after fixing the car last night i drove to my friend's house (different friend). i stayed for a few hours and on my way out i saw a puddle bleeding from under my car. stuck a finger in to smell it and found it to be gear oil from my tranny. about 1/2 a quart actually. i drove home (feeling sick to my damn stomach) and that's where my car stands. mother nature doesnt even like my car because now it is covered in 5 inches of snow.
thanx to everyone that tried to cheer me up, and thanx for any help i can get now.
