I bought a brand new fuel pump relay for my '88 8V last summer, and it revs
up to 7k.
Cheers.

Hey guy,
I know this for certain because my old FPR died. I bought a new one
from the local import parts store and a few days later about planted my
forehead into the steering wheel when I hit the limiter for the first time.
If you look at the part number on the relay there is a letter on the end
that represents what revision it is. Everything built after a certain
letter has the cutoff in its circuitry. I can't tell you what letters have
it, but that you cannot buy a new relay without it. The only way to get one
is from a yard from and at least a 84 or older car as my car didn't
originally have one. I don't think my 85 rocco did either but It never spun
like my race car so I don't know for sure.

Ahh that would makes sense now why i've never hit the rev limiter becuase
not long after getting my rocco I had fuel pump relay issues and I swapped
one from an old cabbie that was in the junkyard.
