Defrost/Vent Selector Not working

Hi,

  I'm having a problem with the floor, defrost vent selector not making a 
difference in the air flow in my my car.  I'm assuming this is due to a 
faulty vacuum selcor switch connected to the selector lever.  I haven't 
taken anything apart yet.  I just wanted to know if this is a likely 
culprit, and if not what might be. Also, does anyone know of a good 
substitute for the cloth covered vacuum tubing behind the intake manifold 
going to the knock sensor?  I've heard silicone tubing works well.
