I'm Back!!!!!
I know what you mean about the Pierburg Carb, I had the same problem on my
'86 1600GT, it was one of the reasons i scrapped it.
It's just such a shame that VW never released the 16v GTX in this country,
that'd be the perfect solution.
as for insurance, after insuring a 325i at 21 years old, I think almost
anything would be cheaper!!
Does anyone know if the bottom end of the 8v is the same as the 16v because
then i could just get all the top end bits off a Golf 16v?
Then bingo! you've got a standard 139bhp!

Adam

Get a GTX
I got a GT and I wish it was injection... you also get better
manifolds/cams/suspension/brakes and not the horrible 4+E gearbox
Plus the Pierburg carb is a nightmare when it goes wrong/wears out.
Plus they're no more expensive to insure.
