Desperation... any more ideas (16V problems)?

Yes it did, I would stop, the idle would bounce really low and then the
car stalled. Once it started again it would either be in limp home
mode, or perfect for 1/2 a day then all the symptoms would start again.
I traced the whole problem to a bad idle switch combined with corroded
terminals on the temp sender switch at the head.
And yes, I did do all that same shit you are trying....new o2 sensor,
check the dpr current, knock sensor wiring, coil and coil wiring,
swapped ignition units........
One thing I did just think of, mine was an 86 gti motor swap with cis-e
that I wired custom grounds into, yours is a stock 16v motor right? Is
it possible that the grounds from the idle switch and WOT switch are
corroded?
