A2 jetta tranny removal

so... the jetta (286k miles, original clutch, etc), went 'pop' when
sandei tried shifting the other day. the clutch pedal went to the floor, but
the clutch remained engaged. after speed shifting it home for her, i found a
good clutch cable (darn). removal of the tranny end cap revealed the t/o
bearing was fully inserted, indicating the pushrod probably drilled a hole
through the pressure plate.
so here i am, trying to yank this darn tranny. everything is unbolted
(including front mount bracket removed), tranny is free to move, problem is
that i cant seem to get it far enough from the engine to fully disengage.
the mount bracket (rear, trans side) seems to be hitting the frame before i
can get enough seperation on the splines.
so here is the question, is there some way to tweak this thing to get it
out? or do i have to submit and somehow unbolt the mount bracket from the
diff portion of the tranny?
c'mon, i know others here have done this...
thx in advance for info
