Hello all, I've decided to sell my 82 Rocco. For those who haven't
heard about it before, this is the car that Rick Alexander was nice
enough to transport from New York to Missouri on his way to Texas for a
nominal fee. Unfortunately, Rick's wife lost control of the tow vehicle
in a construction zone and banged up the right/rear of the Rocco. The
car runs great, but obviously needs some body work. I drove the car
from my house to my storage unit and I was surprised how well it ran
after sitting for a couple years in New York.
I bought this car from a good friend of mine who had bought it in 1997
from a friend of his who worked at a body shop. This car was a project
of the body shop guy. He wanted to make it a convertible, so he
'chopped' the roof, but I wouldn't call this a hack job. The rocker
panels are reinforced with steel and what used to be the hatch area also
is enclosed with 1/4" thick steel. A top has not been fabricated for
the car. My friend says the guy he bought it from rebuilt the engine,
but I won't claim this for sure since I didn't see it for myself. I
have met this guy before and do believe him, but ya never know. The
color is not so desirable to me, but maybe it is to you. It's the light
brown color of the early 80s. It was sprayed in 97, but is a bit rough
in places now after the accident.
Although a bit dated (brown), the seats are in good shape. The carpet
looks good, but the dash is cracked. I would like to say how many miles
are on it, but I don't remember! I think it said 132k on the clock.
Rick, do you remember? If not, I can go to the storage unit and check.
So anyway, the car is driveable but will need some body work eventually
and could use a top fabricated for it. I really don't want to sell it
especially after my fun open-air trip to the storage unit, but I don't
see me taking the time to fix it with autocross season coming up and all.
All I need is $500 for it. I only have one VW these days, so I'd like
to clear out a set of rims from the garage, which I'll throw in for
nothing. They are old-school ARE rims (not chrome). They are not in
the best shape, but look straight. The car will also include the wheels
it came with. I think they are called tarantula wheels - they are the
13" wheels.
I also have a BUNCH of Scirocco parts in the storage unit. I tore apart
my 88 16V that was wrecked a few years ago in anticipation of using the
parts to upgrade this 82, but I'm sad to say I've lost interest. If you
come get the car, you're welcome to look through my boxes-o-parts.
I think only three other people on this list (Lyman, Rick and Cheapass
Ron) have seen this car. If they'd like to post their opinion of the
car (good or bad), that would be great. For just $500, this is a fun car.
Ron, I think it was you who posted pics of the car on a website. Could
you post that link?
I live in central Missouri. Email or call 660.829.0844 if interested.
Thanks,
Mike
