In an unprecented move, my parents supported my interest in cars by
returning from their trip to Germany with two Mk1s which they gave me for
Christmas!!!
They're both in pretty good shape; the silver one is a little banged up on
the roof and has some red paint on the hood by the driver side fender.
The lime green '76 is almost mint except for some imperfections in the
windows.
Here are the specs:
1976 VW Scirocco TS
dual downpipe non-catalyst
green metallic paint ("Viperngrun metallic")
euro bumpers
round headlights
manual windows
seats are green plaid w/black bolsters
front and rear sway bars
it's a 4 speed judging by the bellhousing shape
chrome gasket trim
side mirror on driver door only
metal body
1:43 made by Minichamps
one of just 4,016 made
The second car is a Scirocco GTI made in W. Germany, silver paint with
dual front wipers and single rear wiper. It's a 1:87 made by Herpa. As I
mentioned it has some dings and scratches, particularly on the roof, and
there are some red paint scuffs on the front of the hood by the driver
side fender. It has a pretty serious camber problem at the left rear, not
to mention the equivalent of about 6 inches of horizontal play at the
wheels. Needless to say I won't be driving it at all as that would be very
unsafe.
Even though I don't own a Mk1 (yet!) I have to say that these are really
cool! If only I could get a lowered silver MkII with the 16v bodykit and
euro bumpers; that would be sweeeeet..
In addition to the cars I got a set of craftsman 'bolt-out' rounded bolt
remover sockets. They look like they might work well, but I haven't tried
them yet. Are they any good?
Merry Christmas to all!!
